Locust -- Day 208

Apparently locust are the swarming phase of certain species of short horned grasshoppers. I always thought a locust was something entirely different than a grasshopper, but after a little research online, I found that when a group of grasshoppers get together and start multiplying and swarming and eating that is when they are called locust. So when I went outside to find something to photograph I walked past our rather ugly sunflowers that somehow sprouted up in our garden/weed bed and discovered a small swarm of locust were quickly making dinner of the sunflowers. There were probably 100 grasshoppers on the 4-5 sunflower stalks. I can't imagine what it must have been like in Egypt!

I spent today at Silver Dollar City. I decided that I'd leave my camera in the car and enjoy the park without carrying it around. :) So this is the photo you get today. Just the parking lot after dark when we were leaving. The funny thing is that I really didn't miss my camera that much. There were a couple times that I would have rather had it than my cell phone camera, but I captured the moments on my cell phone camera and it was worth not having to carry around a big camera all day. :)

I went outside on the 5th looking for something to photograph and found this little parachute left over from a firework, I spent quite some time outside trying to capture an image of it in the perfect position (it's not easy to capture it in focus with the correct lighting while holding it and spinning and clicking the shutter all at the same time) I don't know how many shots I got, but finally I thought I had a good one so I went inside to load them on my computer. Earlier in the day I'd had trouble with my SD card and had cleaned the contacts on it. Well, that apparently messed up the card and I wasn't able to get the pictures off and had a format error and ended up losing all the pictures because I had to reformat the card. I then made the image of Coke bottle top in desperation before going to bed for day 186. On the 6th I photographed the parachute again (I'd left it in the flower pot on our front porch - I'd had the urge to save it "just in case"). If I'd been using film I would have gone through 6.8 rolls. That's 170 pictures!
