Locust -- Day 208
Apparently locust are the swarming phase of certain species of short horned grasshoppers. I always thought a locust was something entirely different than a grasshopper, but after a little research online, I found that when a group of grasshoppers get together and start multiplying and swarming and eating that is when they are called locust. So when I went outside to find something to photograph I walked past our rather ugly sunflowers that somehow sprouted up in our garden/weed bed and discovered a small swarm of locust were quickly making dinner of the sunflowers. There were probably 100 grasshoppers on the 4-5 sunflower stalks. I can't imagine what it must have been like in Egypt!

Ants -- Day 173
It's not an easy task to create an image of a busy ant who is trying to rescue all the babies that were just unearthed by weed pulling. I knew this ant nest was here from pulling weeds last Monday, so when I asked Dad what I should photograph and he mentioned ants, I knew where to go. I reversed my lens for this one. I really need to get a reverse lens adapter so I don't have to hold a loose lens steady as well as the camera. :) These aren't big ants, they are typical little red ant size. About the size of this I in real life.

Ladybug -- Day 244
While on vacation it is so hard to choose one photo to post. :) I took so many! Here is a cute little Ladybug that I found. I was using my soon to be twin-in-law's Canon Rebel 2Ti which really captures detail a whole lot better than my old Rebel. I very much enjoy using Stephen's camera whenever I get the chance.

Ladybug -- Day 318
I found a ladybug while getting ready to do the dishes this evening. I remembered a photo taken by Steve Gallow, another photographer with a 365 day project (I'd post his photo, but I can't remember what day it was.) and decided to make that ladybug my photo for today. I ended up forgetting about the dishes and came back later to find that my sister's had completed the job without me. :D Thanks girls!

Praying Mantis -- Day 288
Bug eyes! Daniel found this huge praying mantis (to bad you can't tell the size from this photo). It was the biggest I'd ever seen.

Mosquito -- Day 254
This'll probably gross some of you out, but when you have been taking a photo every day for the last 253 days, sometimes you get desperate. :) I was trying to get a picture of ants, but they were moving too much for the low lighting. So with this ugly guy landed, I changed my focus. :) Yep that's my arm that is serving dinner to this blood sucker. :{

Interesting Bug -- Day 236
Check out the odd bug on this flower. Hannah found it while she was picking Zinnia's this morning. Does anyone know what it is?

Butterfly -- Day 209
This was a stick to you kind of butterfly. :) My sisters and I joined a couple friends today at a local national monument and this butterfly rode on the top of Rebecca's head as we walked through the park. I guess it liked her blue bandanna. :)
