Old Typewriter -- Day 142

Although I provided the typewriter and composed the actual shot, I can't take credit for the set-up and styling of this photograph. Thanks to my photographer friend Heather for doing all the work in setting up the scene.

Old Blue Bicycle -- Day 131

I'm going to attempt to make it a week with no flower pictures. Who thinks I can do it? First up, my old bike that I've never ridden. I bought it off ebay several years ago and the forks got bent in shipping, so it sits in the shed waiting. I always forget it's there. Maybe I should learn bike repair and fix it for myself. Or take it apart and combine my two bikes. I have a green one just like it. I bought this one for it's color. :)

Through the Screen -- Day 82

This evening I went by my Grandparent's house and decided to stop by the property next to theirs which is for sale. I've driven past many times and thought about photographing the old barn/shed that is on the property. Today I stopped, but my plans were thwarted by thorny undergrowth. :( Instead I investigated the falling down abandoned house. I couldn't see much, but snapped this image through the torn screen.

Baby Sisters -- Day 65

I'm going to a baby shower tomorrow and I'm supposed to bring a baby picture of myself for a game. I came across these pictures last week, just in time to take mine to the baby shower. :) Anyone know which one is me?

Vintage Telephone -- Day 96

Look at this vintage looking phone that my employer has. :) I thought up a photo idea that I needed an old phone for and remembered that my employer had this gem. :)

Peeking in -- Day 31

I took Ben on a short excursion with my camera this afternoon. We did a little exploring hoping to find something in our neighborhood that we'd never seen before. We've taken pictures at this little shed before, so nothing new there. But we were intrigued as to what was inside. :) I liked how this shot turned out. It makes me imagine all the secrets hidden inside. :) We've looked inside before. It's just old junk.

Old Coins -- Day 321

We had some friends stop by for a visit today. Nathan is a coin collector and showed us some of his collection. These are a few that I found interesting. I wish I could remember the stories behind them, but I guess a photo will just have to do. The oldest coin in this photo is the small one with a lion on it. They used to use a punch to press the metal into the mold. On this particular coin you could see the marks from the punch on the reverse side.

Glass Bottles -- Day 308

I've been wanting to use these bottles as the subject for a photo for a long time. My brother found them in the neighbor's trash (yes, my brothers are dumpster divers. :)) and have had them in a trash can for a long time. Today I went outside to find something to take a picture of and saw the bottles in the trash can filled with water. They are greenish because they've been in that water filled trash can for a long time. :D Anyway, I fished them out one or two at a time and dumped the slimy water out of most of them. I left in in a few of them to add character. :) I lined them up on our fallen tree and took some shots then moved some of them to the stump they were on in this photo. The sun and sky were perfect and I got some really neat pictures. Then I walked over to the bottles for some reason and decided to just stick my camera down and shoot from the ground. I didn't even look through the viewfinder and it turned out perfect. I was holding my camera upside down and I didn't rotate this image 'cause I really like how it looks just like it is.
PS Does anyone notice anything odd about one of the bottles? Besides the fact that there is one with a hole in it. :)

Daniel Portrait -- Day 265 -- Winner of Viewer's Choice Poll

Today we went to a Bluegrass Festival that included a car show. Daniel had the idea to take his picture with one of the cars for today's photo. This truck may not have been his favorite, but it was the only one that worked well for a photo without a lot of distracting background people and other cars. :)

Z is for Zipper -- Day 253

We set up the old canvas tent today. We're getting ready for a camping trip, so we had to see how the tents hold up. This tent was my mom's when she was a little girl. It's got broken zippers and holes in the windows, but it's so cool! I needed a better zipper picture for my alphabet project (which is nearing completion) so grabbed a shot of this ancient zipper. :)

Union Depot -- Day 198

Today, a friend was visiting and Amber and I thought it would be fun to show him the old Union Depot downtown. It's been abandoned for years and is fenced off with locked gates and keep out signs. I've been inside once, before the fence went up, but that was long before digital cameras so I don't have any photos. :) Today all we could do was walk around and shoot through the chain link fence. We did find a couple places where someone has cut through the fence, but we were good law abiding citizens and refrained from going inside. It's a shame that the law breakers who destroy things and paint graffiti all over historic buildings prevent us curious photographers from taking a few innocent pictures. :(

White Wall Tires -- Day 174

Tonight Dad, Amber and I went to a reception/question and answer time/dessert party for Jack Goodman, one of our candidates for United States Congress [If you live in Missouri, look him up. He's the man for the job!]. Some friends of ours arrived with their friends who own an old Packard. :) Old cars are pretty and I decided to get a photo of the white wall tires for my photo today. :)

Open Window -- Day 147

I arrived home from church and took my camera and dog on a walk. I found this window in the old red brick building that is near our house. The building is being renovated and I wanted to capture some of it's old charm before it loses it all. My brothers call it, "The Red School." It was a private school in more recent years, but was originally the first bank in town. I think it's going to be apartments when the renovation is done.

"Ancient" Pay Phone-- Day 143

While exploring the "Forest" with the kids I nanny, we found this "old" pay phone. I know pay phones aren't really that old, but think about the last time you used one. I bet it's been awhile. :) Cell phones have taken over. I wish the receiver had still been there I might have brought it home and kept it as an antique. :D

North Ward Elementary -- Day 98

We took a walk after church today and I thought this old building was really neat. I love old brick buildings! I wish I knew all the stories behind it. From what I found online this building was build in 1903 and was an Elementary school. It is now a museum.
I did a little editing in Photoshop to straighten the perspective.

Railroad Stakes -- Day 73

I probably should have done a special photo for St. Patrick's Day, but I totally forgot it was the 17th and don't have any good ideas anyway. My brothers managed to haul home 30 lbs of railroad stakes from the nearby railroad track. It's amazing the treasures a boy can find. These stakes have a purpose besides being junk, though. Daniel has a plan to turn them into something useful. Stay tuned!

Movie Reel -- Day 62

Hannah and I went to see the movie, The Sound of Music, at our local live arts theatre. They often put on an Old Movie Night between when they strike the set and begin rehearsals for a new play. One of the regular's at the threatre owns a couple old movie projectors and that is how they put on these old movies. I enjoyed getting to go to the light booth to capture the reels in action. :)

Abandoned on the Trail -- Day 43

Just after leaving for the return trip, we stopped to photograph this old covered wagon in a field along the highway. My older sister had told me about it. Next time I go south for a visit, I'm going to stop here again. I want to see it with green grass all around and take my tripod so I can make it into an HDR.
